W.H.AudenThere will be no peace
Though mild clear weather
Smile again on the shire of your esteem
And its colours come back,
the storm has changed you:
You will not forget,
ever,
The darkness blotting out hope, the gale
Prophesying your downfall.
You must live with your knowledge,
Way back, beyond, outside of you are others,
In the moonless absences you never heard of,
Who have certainly heard of you,
Beings of unknown number and gender:
And they do not like you.
What have you done to them?Nothing? Nothing is not an answer:
You will come to believe -
how can you help it? -
That you did, you
did do something;
You will find yourself wishing you could make them laugh,
You will long for their friendship.
There will be no peace,
Fight back, then, with such courage as you haveAnd every unchivalrous dodge you know of,
Clear in your conscience on this:
Their cause, if they had one, is nothing to them now;
They hate for hate's sake.
I'm dying for The Year of Magical Thinking, but mum refuses till I've finished Saving Fish From Drowning. Woe befall my literary journey. The way is narrow and winding indeed.
Daph says a retail snob is someone who, for example, would rather buy one expensive pair of italian shoes than 10 other pairs of MIC shoes. And she thinks I'm a retail snob. That sounds mean. But let's face it, if you buy that pair of italian pumps, though it'll probably set you back by 3 months' allowance, you can rest assured that the quality of the leather will never allow it to break while walking, whereas no one can vouch for those 10 pairs of unknown MIC shoes. Shouldn't it be quality over quantity?
So make the right choice today: be a retail snob! (: (to be said in a salesman tone.)
Yesterday, despite feeling extremely weirded out and out of sorts, I was sad that it was friday, because saturday didn't have school! This is such a novel feeling for me. I really thought RJ would be so different and alien, but it's just a whole new experience, and a fun one at that.
What's infinitely better is that you get wacky antics guys like to engage in. And the thing about A13A is that the guys are all very very nice, and you just automatically love them (we're talking platonic here), so you understand when they have to do/say weird, funny, crazy things. And class discussions/tutorials are seriously engaging. I can just sit in one spot for the whole hour and stay entirely absorbed and engrossed in the lecture during lit / KI. It's all great.
Another thing so very different, is that my class is made up of fellow humanities-lovers, and that is TOO COOL. (Not to say I don't miss 410. I really really do. Thank goodness for all the waves and hugs and smiles when I see you guys. You really never know what you've had till it's gone.)
I mean, the humans oh-so-frequently bash up the sub-humans! Especially during lectures with certain teachers, who cannot stand the dry monotony that is science. But hey, it takes many sorts to make the world go round.. (No I'm kidding, the rotation of the earth has nothing to do with the people on it. And furthermore, the world was already round long before we had people. Unless we have some hidden fantastical theory (like some paleomagnetic evidence thingy). I know my science lah. [footnote: I am not semi-drunk. Inside joke.])
For now, we are fondly termed provisional humans by Mr. McConnell, which suits me just fine.
